Time to recap!

This is the 8th article in the “Step by step to self employment” series, and by now, you have most likely noticed that no mention has been made of anything relating to the economics of business, setting up a business plan, applying for finance, running a business, or to the actual world of self employment.

The reason for this, as mentioned in the first article, is that the individual’s mindset is generally the reason why people either achieve, or don’t achieve any goal they set themselves.

In general, the articles have been about people’s mindsets regarding issues that have generally proven to be the most difficult to overcome:

• Fear of failure
• Self doubt
• Commitment
• Making time and managing activity

Once you’re able to manage your mindset regarding these issues, I believe that you are well on your way to achieving that goal of self employment.
Overcoming these obstacles is often ongoing – the idea is to continually maintain awareness as to how these affect your decisions and how they’re hindering progress.

Also, remember that it is important not to use that self awareness as a negative – that is, don’t make statements like, “I can’t move forward until I have reached ……”  Remember that whilst you are developing yourself, you are actually moving forward, but more importantly, that you can continue on the journey whilst you’re developing yourself.  It’s all about discovering things about yourself as you go along.

Of course, these articles alone will not necessarily be all it takes to help you overcome these common obstacles. The great news, however, is that there is an abundance of information on the internet, which could help you.

The Master said, “If one learns from others but does not think, one will be bewildered. If, on the other hand, one thinks but does not learn from others, one will be in peril.”  —-  Confucius   (551 BC – 479 BC)
